An Overview of the Museum
"Art museums are enchanting and entertaining places, and offer opportunities for discovery" (p.4). The art museum is a place of wonder and vast knowledge, and should be used as a teaching tool as often as possible. It provides students with real life viewings of different paintings, giving them the full experience of the artwork. It also allows students to be professionally educated about the works in front of them, giving them knowledge the would not have acquired otherwise. "A meaningful museum experience is one in which students expand their aesthetic sensibilities and their understanding of art as a human endeavor. [They] will increase the significance of encounters that students have with works of art back in the classroom, and in other subject areas" (p.17)
